Evangelina Chamorro, 32, had just dropped her two daughters at school and was feeding her pigs alongside her husband when they were pulled into a landslide in Peru. Gobsmacked residents watched her emerging from the mud after being swept into the avalanche.
Armando Rivera, her husband, told they tried to climb a tree but the trunk broke. She eventually lost his grip and they got separated.
Evangelina finally appeared near a bridge, lifting herself from a current of wooden planks and walking towards the shore covered head to toe in mud. Floods and mudslides have killed more than 70 people in Peru due to the intense rains caused by “El Niño”.
