Dozens of videos of an impressive fireball that was seen in the sky of several US’ states went viral. There were about 200 witness reports from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, New York, Kentucky and Minnesota, according to the American Meteor Society.
The meteor appeared to have exploded around 1:30 a.m. over Lake Michigan. Believe it or not, a UW-Madison astronomer said the firewall wasn’t as impressive as it seemed: It wasn’t bigger than a basketball he said.
“Meteors like that are surprisingly small for as much light as they put out,” explained Jim Lattis, the director of UW-Madison’s Space Place.
