The man was standing outside a vehicle when Mark Hess, a Walton County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant, appeared. When he pulled out a rifle, Hess did the same with his gun.
While holding the rifle, the man repeatedly told the officer to shoot him and he keep walking towards him. Hess could have shot him. But he didn’t want to do that.
The suicidal one continued telling him to kill him, when he accidentally dropped his rifle. Hess realized he had an opportunity there. So he quickly bowled the man over and put him in a choke hold. Finally another officer grabbed the man’s rifle without hurting him.
