Authorities in Little Rock, Arkansas, decided that the 93-year-old Broadway Bridge was structurally deficient so it had to be demolished. However, despite detonating the explosives, the bridge remained still.
The demolition crew needed five hours to fell the structure. Severing the steel arch and bridge deck should have taken about 30 seconds.
It seems that the blasts weakened the span, but parts of the bridge fell against themselves and none fell into the Arkansas River. Crews had to attached a cable to the bridge and pulled it down.
