Stephen Hawking has given a stark warning about the future of the human race – marking its greed and stupidity as a possible destructive power.
The world famous scientist was speaking to Larry King about the possibility of man destroying himself through his own ignorance.
“We certainly have not become less greedy or less stupid,” Mr Hawking says of development in the six years since he and King last spoke.
“Six years ago I was warning about pollution and overcrowding. They have gotten worse since then.
“The population has grown by half a billion since our last meeting, with no end in sight.
“At this rate, it will be 11 billion by 2100. Air pollution has increased over the past five years.”
More than 80% of inhabitants of urban areas are exposed to unsafe levels of air pollution, he says in the interview produced by Ora.TV.
The biggest problem facing humanity, he says, is “the increase in air pollution… and increasing levels of carbon dioxide.”
